Information we process

We may process VINs, account and contact details, order identifiers, report activity, support messages, device and security logs, referral parameters and consent preferences. Payment details are handled by the payment provider; we do not need to receive full card numbers.

Why we use it

We use information to validate VINs, create and deliver orders, provide account access, prevent abuse, respond to support, measure site performance and comply with legal obligations. Conversion measurement works in two layers. Our own aggregate counters are bounded daily totals and contain no VIN, email, raw IP address, cookie identifier or visitor profile. We also use a third-party product-analytics service that sets a cookie identifying a browser across visits and may record page interactions; it never receives a VIN, and the VIN result page is excluded from that recording entirely.

ChatGPT VIN decoder

If you use the VIN Lookup tool in ChatGPT to decode a VIN, the VIN you provide is sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) vPIC service for basic vehicle identity data. This tool does not request your account, order, payment or purchased-report data and does not perform a vehicle-history search. ChatGPT processes your conversation under OpenAI’s own terms and privacy policy.

ClearVIN vehicle-data processing

When you request a ClearVIN preview or purchase a ClearVIN vehicle history report, the submitted VIN is sent to ClearVIN so it can locate available vehicle information and generate the requested provider report.

We may retain the ClearVIN report identifier, fulfillment status, the original report file, integrity information and report-access activity for secure delivery, customer support, billing disputes, fraud prevention and contractual recordkeeping. Full payment-card details remain with the payment provider.

Service providers and disclosures

We may share the minimum necessary information with payment, authentication, hosting, database, email, analytics, fraud-prevention and vehicle-data providers. Providers may process information in another country under their applicable contractual and legal safeguards. We may also disclose information when legally required or during a business transaction.

Retention and security

Retention depends on account, order, tax, dispute, security and contractual needs. We use access controls, encryption and monitoring designed to protect data, but no system can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices

Depending on your location, you may request access, correction, deletion or a copy of personal information, or object to certain processing. Contact support to submit a request; identity verification may be required.

Children and updates

The service is not directed to children under 13. We may update this policy as the product, providers or law changes and will post the effective date on this page.
