What the NMVTIS status establishes
The DOJ provider list identifies ClearVIN as an approved consumer-access provider for NMVTIS data. The NMVTIS layer can include current and historical title state, title brands, odometer readings, and junk, salvage, or insurer total-loss records supplied to the system. It is not a universal accident, maintenance, lien, photo, or owner database.
ClearVIN says it adds auction, sales, valuation, ownership, impound, recall, lien, and other data from additional sources where available. Read the sample and the source labels in the delivered report; a category advertised across the platform may still be empty for one VIN.
Free decoder, report preview, and credits
ClearVIN’s FAQ describes a free VIN decoder and recall check alongside paid vehicle reports and window-sticker products. The consumer report price is placed on the VIN-specific preview and depends on the package selected, so do not reuse a dealer bulk price or an old promotional article as the consumer total.
A ClearVIN report credit is a unit held in the account and spent on a valid VIN, plate, or lot lookup. The FAQ says credits obtained in a package or promo do not expire. Confirm what happens when a VIN is invalid or returns sparse data, and download each generated report and receipt.
Consumer and dealer programs are not interchangeable
The dealer program advertises monthly or annual membership plus per-report pricing and business features. That pricing does not describe a consumer buying one report. Conversely, a consumer bundle is not proof that API or dealership use is permitted. Match the product to the intended use and terms.
Before payment, record the exact total, report count, tax, renewal status, credit validity, refund policy, delivery method, and support channel. Then compare the history with NHTSA, NICB, seller documents, title, and an inspection.
