These are BMW’s published U.S. coverage periods for new vehicles. Each runs from the warranty start date, and whichever limit — time or mileage — is reached first ends that coverage.

How to check remaining coverage on a VIN
- Read the 17-character VIN and decode it to confirm the model, model year, and whether the car is a battery-electric or plug-in hybrid, since battery coverage differs.
- Establish the in-service date, which is the date of first retail sale or the date the vehicle first entered service as a demonstrator or company car. Every BMW warranty period runs from that date, not from the model year.
- Ask any authorized BMW center to run a coverage inquiry by VIN. It reports remaining bumper-to-bumper, rust perforation, emissions and battery coverage, along with any open recalls.

Does the warranty transfer to a second owner?
BMW's New Vehicle Limited Warranty is written to "the first retail purchaser, and each subsequent purchaser," so whatever time and mileage remain transfer automatically with the car at no cost and with no reduction in term. The remaining BMW Ultimate Care scheduled maintenance coverage is likewise transferable to subsequent owners.
