No account is required. Coverage starts on the original in-service date, so a used Honda's clock began with the first owner. Terms below are Honda's published 2026 US coverage.
Honda factory warranty coverage
These are Honda’s published U.S. coverage periods for new vehicles. Each runs from the warranty start date, and whichever limit — time or mileage — is reached first ends that coverage.

How to check remaining coverage on a VIN
- Find the 17-character VIN on the driver-side dashboard, the driver door jamb label, the title, or the insurance card.
- Open owners.honda.com/service-maintenance/warranty and enter the VIN in the VIN field, or select year, model and trim if you do not have the VIN yet.
- Read the coverage list Honda returns for that vehicle, remembering the periods run from the original in-service date, not from your purchase date.
- Ask a Honda dealer or Honda Automobile Customer Service at 1-800-999-1009 for the in-service date if you need exact expiry dates rather than coverage lengths.
- Check the same VIN for open recalls through Honda or at nhtsa.gov. Recall repairs are free at a Honda dealer regardless of warranty status.
Does the warranty transfer to a second owner?
Honda's main coverages — the 3-year / 36,000-mile limited warranty, the 5-year / 60,000-mile powertrain warranty and the 8-year / 100,000-mile high-voltage battery capacity warranty — carry over to a second owner for whatever time and mileage remain. The important exception is the 5-year rust perforation warranty: Honda's warranty booklet states only the vehicle's original owner or lessee can claim under it, and that coverage cannot be transferred.
What a warranty check cannot tell you
- Whether previous damage or modification has voided coverage on a specific component.
- Whether required maintenance was performed — manufacturers can deny claims where servicing was neglected.
- Anything about title brands, accident history, or odometer records; those are separate VIN checks.
- The status of open safety recalls, which are repaired free of charge regardless of warranty.

Is a Honda warranty transferable to a second owner?
Mostly yes. The limited, powertrain and high-voltage battery warranties carry over with whatever time and mileage remain. The exception is the rust perforation warranty, which Honda restricts to the original owner or lessee and does not transfer.
