How to check remaining coverage on a VIN
- Decode the 17-character VIN to confirm model, model year and whether the vehicle is a hybrid, since hybrid battery coverage is much longer than the basic warranty.
- Establish the in-service date, which is the first date the vehicle was delivered to an ultimate purchaser, leased, or used as a company car or demonstrator. Every Lexus warranty period runs from that date.

Does the warranty transfer to a second owner?

No transfer form, fee or dealer visit is involved, and the term is not shortened for a second owner: the 72-month/70,000-mile powertrain warranty and the 10-year/150,000-mile hybrid battery warranty keep running from the original in-service date.
What a warranty check cannot tell you
- Whether previous damage or modification has voided coverage on a specific component.
- Whether required maintenance was performed — manufacturers can deny claims where servicing was neglected.
