Toyota factory warranty coverage
These are Toyota’s published U.S. coverage periods for new vehicles. Each runs from the warranty start date, and whichever limit — time or mileage — is reached first ends that coverage.

How to check remaining coverage on a VIN
- Find the 17-character VIN on the driver-side dashboard, the driver door jamb label, the title, or the insurance card.
- Decode the VIN to confirm the model year and whether the vehicle is a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or battery-electric — battery coverage differs sharply between them.
- Sign in or create a Toyota Owners account at toyota.com/owners and add the VIN. Toyota shows warranty coverage there alongside service history and recalls.
- For a used car you do not own, ask a Toyota dealer for the in-service date tied to the VIN, then count forward from that date — a 2021 model first sold in 2022 runs its clock from 2022.
- Check the VIN for open safety recalls through Toyota or at nhtsa.gov. Recall repairs are free at a Toyota dealer whatever the warranty status.
Does the warranty transfer to a second owner?
Toyota's own answer is that the New Vehicle Limited Warranty is automatically transferred at no cost to subsequent owners, with no forms to file and no reduction in coverage. The hybrid-component and hybrid battery coverage runs on the same in-service date and carries over the same way, which matters most on used hybrids bought several years in.
What a warranty check cannot tell you
- Whether previous damage or modification has voided coverage on a specific component.
- Whether required maintenance was performed — manufacturers can deny claims where servicing was neglected.
- Anything about title brands, accident history, or odometer records; those are separate VIN checks.
- The status of open safety recalls, which are repaired free of charge regardless of warranty.

Is a Toyota warranty transferable to a second owner?
Yes. Toyota states the New Vehicle Limited Warranty is automatically transferred at no cost to subsequent owners. Nothing needs to be filed and coverage is not shortened — the remaining time and mileage simply carry over.
How long is the Toyota hybrid battery warranty?
Ten years or 150,000 miles from the date of first use on 2020 and newer Toyota hybrids, whichever comes first. Earlier models carry 8 years or 100,000 miles on the hybrid battery.
What does the Toyota powertrain warranty cover?
Sixty months or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, covering the engine, transmission or transaxle, and the front-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive systems. Basic bumper-to-bumper coverage is shorter, at 36 months or 36,000 miles.
