Sources and refunds

Zilocar lists state DMVs, salvage, auction and insurance records, and proprietary and third-party aggregators as sources, and says accident data covers up to 38 U.S. states. It does not claim NMVTIS access and is not on the DOJ list.

The refund policy excludes membership charges once a period starts, the trial fee, clean reports and missing data; single reports are refunded only for duplicates or blank or failed reports. Cancel in the dashboard under billing.

How to verify Zilocar before you pay

On October 8, 2026, the DOJ approved-provider page listed twelve primary consumer providers; Zilocar is not among them and does not claim NMVTIS data. Open the list from vehiclehistory.bja.ojp.gov rather than from a link on a seller’s site, and confirm the exact domain you are about to pay. Lookalike domains and resellers that are not listed cannot sell an official NMVTIS report.

An approved listing confirms access to the federal NMVTIS title core. It does not certify the accuracy of commercial add-ons, a renewal schedule or a refund policy. Record the total due today, any later charge, the number of VINs covered and how long the report stays downloadable, then compare that with a $14.99 one-time report before you choose.

Buyer checklist

  1. Set a reminder to cancel within 72 hours if you take the trial.
  2. Compare the $39.95 single report with cheaper one-time options.
  3. Verify title brands through a DOJ-listed provider.
  4. Check open recalls free at NHTSA.
  5. Check theft and insurer salvage at NICB VINCheck.
  6. Save the report and receipt as soon as they arrive.
