The NMVTIS claim and the DOJ list

A VinInfoHub guide page states that it is an authorized NMVTIS data provider. The DOJ page that lists approved NMVTIS data providers and their additional websites, checked October 8, 2026, does not include VinInfoHub. A reseller may pass through data obtained from a listed provider, but only listed businesses are approved to provide NMVTIS reports.

Elsewhere the site says it aggregates data from official sources including CARFAX and AutoCheck through official partnerships, and its comparison page says it is not a “discount CARFAX”. Its refund policy offers a full refund within 14 days for non-delivery, corrupt files, VIN mismatch, missing advertised data or double charges.

How to check a report bought from VinInfoHub

Before paying, read three pages, not the homepage: the terms of service, the refund policy and the contact page. Write down who the seller says it is, what it says you are buying (an original CARFAX report, an AutoCheck report, or its own report built from other sources) and the exact conditions for a refund. On discounted-report sites these pages often say less than the marketing.

After delivery, check that the VIN printed on every page matches the VIN on the car, that the report shows a generation date from today, and that the provider named on the document is the one you paid for. A report for another VIN, an old date or an unexplained brand change is a reason to stop. Title brands and total-loss records can be confirmed independently through a DOJ-listed NMVTIS provider, theft and insurer salvage at NICB VINCheck, and recalls at NHTSA.

Buyer checklist

  1. Check the DOJ list for any NMVTIS claim.

  3. Request any refund within 14 days.
  4. Check the VIN and date on the report.
  5. Check open recalls free at NHTSA.
  6. Check theft and insurer salvage at NICB VINCheck.
