Can I use a report credit on any VIN?
Use a wallet credit for any valid 17-character VIN, with one credit per vehicle. Enter the VIN from your order page when ready.
Check the review date and linked sources for context. Live availability, prices and record coverage can vary by VIN, source, jurisdiction and time.
Yes. A credit is not locked to one vehicle — any credit still sitting in your wallet can go on any valid 17-character VIN. If you bought the pack straight from a VIN result page, the first credit is assigned to that VIN automatically; every remaining credit is yours to spend on whatever vehicles you choose. The catalogue puts it the same way: use each report on a different VIN, whenever you decide. One credit covers one VIN.
- A pack bought without a VIN attaches no vehicle at checkout; a pack bought from a VIN result assigns its first credit to that VIN.
- The VIN must be a genuine 17-character VIN: no I, O or Q, and the North American check digit has to match when it can be calculated.
- Credits stay on the order they were bought on; the policy describes no way to move one elsewhere.
A pack is bought as credits, not as one car's report
When you buy a pack without a VIN, the review step shows no vehicle panel at all. In its place is a plain statement: you are buying report credits, not a report for one VIN, and after payment you enter a VIN for each report from your order page — one credit spent per VIN, whenever you are ready. If you started the pack from a VIN result instead, that VIN stays on the order and its report is created when payment is confirmed; the remaining credits are still yours to assign.
A single report works the other way round: it is generated for the VIN you confirm at checkout, so that one is tied to the car you named.
What the VIN field will refuse
“Any VIN” still means a real VIN. The field rejects anything that is not exactly 17 characters and says how many are missing or extra. It rejects the letters I, O and Q, which never appear in a VIN. Where a North American check digit can be calculated, a mismatch is refused too. None of those refusals costs a credit: the server revalidates the VIN before it touches your balance.
Where a credit cannot travel
Credits live on the order that bought them. Each order has exactly one entitlement, and the wallet spends only that order's credits — nothing in the current policy describes moving a credit to another order, another account or another person.
Within one order a VIN is also unique: the same vehicle submitted twice returns “already assigned to this pack” rather than consuming a second credit. And a valid VIN is not automatically a covered vehicle — if the provider holds no record for it, your credit is left alone.
Steps
- Confirm the 17 characters against the car, the title and the registration.
- Check for I, O or Q — they are almost always 1, 0 or a misread character.
- Spend one credit per vehicle you are seriously considering.
- Keep the rest for the next car on your shortlist.
What this does not cover
- A valid VIN is not the same as a covered vehicle: the provider can hold no vehicle-history record for it, in which case no report is produced.
- Credits stay with the order they were bought on; the current policy does not state a transfer path to another order or person.
- Coverage for any one VIN varies by jurisdiction, source, record type and reporting date, so two vehicles bought with the same pack can return very different amounts of history.

Frequently asked questions
Is the VIN I checked for free before paying used automatically?
For a single report, yes — it is generated for the VIN you confirmed at checkout. For a pack started from that VIN result, the first credit is assigned to it automatically. For a pack bought without a VIN, none is attached at checkout; you enter each one afterwards from the order page.
Can two credits be spent on the same VIN?
No. An order stores one report job per VIN, so a repeat submission reports that the VIN is already assigned and no second credit is used.
Do I have to own the vehicle to run a report?
The terms license a purchased report for your own internal use in evaluating the identified vehicle — personal research or an internal business decision. They set no ownership requirement, and the service is not intended for obtaining a previous owner's personal information.
