What the free check records
The check page is built to work anonymously: its badges say 'No account required' and 'No owner data', and the search card footer says your search stays private. The privacy policy explains that information is used to validate VINs, create and deliver orders, provide account access, prevent abuse, respond to support, measure site performance and comply with legal obligations, and that conversion measurement uses bounded daily counters only.
Site analytics are additionally gated: once a visitor reaches a private path such as the dashboard, checkout or a report page, DOM autocapture and session recording are switched off for the rest of that page session, and URLs in events are stripped of query strings and rewritten away from those private paths.
What happens to a VIN you actually buy a report for
Creating an order encrypts the VIN with AES-256-GCM before it is written to the database and stores a separate keyed hash alongside it, so the order can be matched to a VIN without the plain text sitting in a column. The pack redemption screen says the same thing to the buyer: your VIN is encrypted. That VIN is then sent to the report provider so it can locate available records and generate the document you paid for.
That is the honest boundary. Searching is anonymous; buying creates an order that necessarily links an email, a VIN and a payment to each other, and the privacy policy says those records are retained for delivery, support, billing disputes, fraud prevention and contractual recordkeeping.

Will the owner or seller know I checked their VIN?
Nothing in the product notifies a vehicle owner or a seller about a search. VIN Lookup has no relationship with them and no channel to tell them.
Does the report show the previous owner's name or address?
No. The published FAQ states results show non-personal event information such as dates, states, use types and transfer counts only where law and source agreements allow.
Can I ask for my search or order data to be deleted?
The privacy policy says you may be able to request access, correction, deletion or a copy depending on your location. Submit it through the contact page; identity verification may be required.
Is the VIN kept in plain text anywhere in the database?
On an order it is stored as ciphertext with a keyed hash for matching. The policy does not claim that no system anywhere ever holds the value in memory while a lookup runs.
