Answer

Open My Reports and sign in with the same email address you typed at checkout. Purchases, ready PDFs and unused report credits are listed there for the verified account, so losing the tab or the email does not lose the order. Sign-in sends a six-digit code to that address; a password is offered as an alternative, not required. Your report email also links straight to My Reports, and the original checkout browser keeps private access for a short window.

  • The email address is the key: it must match the one used at checkout.
  • A missing order is never a reason to pay a second time.
  • The checkout browser's private access is temporary; the account is not.

Three ways back to the order

The report email is the shortest route: it carries a 'View report' link, a 'Download PDF' link, and a 'My reports' link. The original checkout browser can also open the order and report pages directly if you paid without signing in: checkout leaves a private access token in that browser — created with a seven-day life, and revoked as soon as an account claims the order. If you were signed in when you paid, there is no browser token; the order is already in your account.

The durable route is the account. Sign in with the checkout email, enter the six-digit code we send (a password is offered as an alternative), and your orders appear in My Reports with their status, any ready PDF and any unused credits. Reports stay locked until that email is verified, which is what the code does.

If the order is not visible from here

The success page has a specific screen for this. It says the order is not visible from that browser, that nothing is lost if you already paid and that you should not pay again, and it offers 'Sign in with the checkout email'. That usually means you are on a different device, in an in-app browser that dropped the cookie, or signed into an account whose email differs from the one typed at the payment step.

If you land on the order page without the private link at all, it tells you the same thing more briefly: your purchase and unused report credits remain in My Reports. If the account still shows nothing after a verified sign-in with the checkout address, contact support with the order reference rather than reordering.

Steps

  1. Search your inbox for the report or order email from VIN Lookup.
  2. Open My Reports and sign in with the checkout email.
  3. Enter the six-digit verification code.
  4. Still empty? Contact support with the order reference — do not reorder.

What this does not cover

  • My Reports only lists orders whose checkout email matches your verified account email.
  • The private checkout-browser access is created with a seven-day expiry.
  • Reports stay locked until the account email is verified.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

I used a different email at checkout than my usual one. Which do I sign in with?

The one you typed at checkout. The order is attached to the account whose verified email matches the payer email, so signing in with any other address will show an empty library.

Do I need an account to open a report at all?

No. The browser you paid in keeps private access to that order and report for a limited window. An account is what makes access durable across devices and after that window.

What if I think I paid twice?

Do not start a third checkout. The refund policy lists being charged more than once for the same order as an eligible review request; contact support with the checkout email and order ID.

Where is the order reference shown?

On the order page, in the details list, as the first eight characters of the order ID in capitals. The order update email also identifies the order at the bottom, but prints the full order ID rather than the short reference.
