Answer

Use 'View report' to open the document in its own tab first, then 'Download PDF' to save the original file and open it in a reader app on your device. The report is embedded through your browser's own PDF viewer, so a blank or stuck frame is usually the viewer, not a damaged file. If it still will not open after reasonable troubleshooting, that is one of the situations the refund policy lists for review.

  • A new tab and a saved download solve most inline viewer failures.
  • Every download is re-checked against the stored SHA-256 hash and file size before it is served.
  • A report that cannot be opened after reasonable troubleshooting is an eligible refund request for review.

Try these in order

Start with 'View report', which opens the original document in a new tab instead of the embedded frame. On a phone the report card offers the same thing as 'Open full report', with 'Download PDF instead' underneath, because small-screen browsers vary in how they render an embedded PDF.

If the tab is blank, use 'Download PDF' and open the saved file in a dedicated reader on your computer or phone. If your browser or workplace device blocks the download, sign in to My Reports on a personal device with the checkout email and download it there. Each download press signs a fresh short-lived link, so use the button again rather than reusing an old URL you saved.

What the system checks before serving the file

Before a download link is signed, the stored object is re-verified against the SHA-256 hash, byte size and PDF content type recorded when the report was delivered. If anything diverges, the service returns a 'still being prepared' or temporary-unavailable response instead of handing you a substituted or truncated document. That is why you may occasionally see a retry message rather than a broken file.

If you have exhausted the steps above, contact support from the contact page with the checkout email, the order ID and the VIN ending in its last six characters. The refund policy names a report that cannot be opened after reasonable troubleshooting among the requests it will review; it promises a review, not an automatic outcome.

Steps

  1. Press 'View report' to open the document in its own tab.
  2. Press 'Download PDF' and open the file in a reader app.
  3. Retry from a personal device signed in to My Reports.
  4. Contact support with the order ID and the last six VIN characters.

What this does not cover

  • Download links are signed for about a minute, so a saved URL stops working - press the button again.
  • Report downloads are rate limited to 30 per hour per visitor.
  • The refund policy commits to reviewing an unopenable report, not to a guaranteed refund.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PDF the original provider document?

Yes. The report page states it is the original, unmodified ClearVIN report, delivered with its findings unchanged.

Why did the page say the report is still being prepared when I pressed download?

The stored file is re-verified against its recorded hash and size before a link is signed. If verification does not pass, you get a retry message instead of a questionable file.

Can I re-download the report later?

Yes. Press the download button again from the report page or from My Reports; a new short-lived link is signed each time.
